Who We Are
We are an independent academic research project started right here in Keaʻau, Hawaii called the “Mobile Data Atlas of Hawaii”. For more information about this survey and what we collect from you, please see our Privacy Policy. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at higeomancer@gmail.com.
Our Research Objective
Resilience is the capacity of a system to absorb disturbance and still retain its basic function and structure. Successful businesses in the State of Hawaii get a larger share of the market because they provide more preferred goods and services. Knowledge of highs and lows allows a successful Hawaiian business owner to anticipate and absorb the occasional period of lower revenues, given the typically higher fixed and operating costs they bear in order to provide the goods and services that the market prefers. Unfortunately, bearing these higher costs makes them less resilient to highs and lows that are much higher or much lower than they anticipated, something made all too clear during the COVID-19 public health emergency and its aftermath.
Helping Hawaiian businesses become more resilient to highs and lows in the market starts with better data about the market. Data companies like SafeGraph provide mobile visit data derived from highly-accurate spatial data and machine learning methods that can detect if a mobile device is dwelling inside one of over 42,000 points of interest (POIs) in the State of Hawaii.
We created a number of information products from this fine-grained data that we think would be useful. Our research objective is to survey local Hawaiian business owners, business advocates, local government decision makers, and affected & interested parties to find out what “they” think are useful information products to help Hawaiian businesses become more resilient to disturbance and still retain the ability to provide the goods and services we as their market prefer.
Begin The Five-Course Survey
You will be taken through the five-course menu of data & information products in random order. The random order is to ensure responses are not biased by the order in which they were presented. It is recommended that you have a good internet connection and use a desktop, laptop, or tablet. You can still use a mobile device to take the survey. Exploring all the information products in the survey is estimated to take about 15 minutes. But you are free to scan and move on. However, make sure to take the Final Survey at the very end.
Mahalo nui loa for your time!
